Great financial advice should not be localised. How I can work with anyone, anywhere in New Zealand
Back to all resources
One of the biggest misconceptions I come across is that a mortgage adviser is someone you need to meet in person, someone local, someone down the road.
That’s simply not the case anymore — and this story is proof of that.
From Timaru to Wellington — No Barriers
A client reached out to me after finding me online through a first home buyers page. She was down in Timaru. I’m based in Wellington. On paper, that might seem like it would complicate things.
It didn’t.
She had been declined by her bank the year before when she tried to purchase a home. That knock back could have been the end of the road for a lot of people. Instead, she kept looking, kept researching, and eventually found me online.
She reached out, we connected, and within two weeks she had a pre-approval.
Within the following month she had found a home, had her offer accepted, and is now settling this month.
All because she looked outside of her location and found someone who was willing to make it work.
The Detail That Nearly Got Missed
This client is purchasing alongside her husband, who is a first home buyer. But her situation had a bit more to it.
She had previously owned a home — over 10 years ago, with a previous partner. A lot of time had passed, her circumstances had completely changed, and under KiwiSaver’s second chance provision she was deemed to be in a similar position to a first home buyer. That meant her KiwiSaver was back on the table as part of her deposit — money she had written off as no longer available to her.
This is exactly the kind of thing an adviser looks for. We are not just finding you a rate — we are looking at your full picture and making sure nothing is left on the table.
How Does It Actually Work Remotely?
Everything we do can be done virtually. From our very first conversation through to settlement, there is not a single step in the process that requires us to be in the same room.
- Initial conversations happen over the phone or video call
- Applications are completed online together
- Documents are sent through digitally
- I keep clients updated every step of the way
Geography is not a barrier. Whether you are in Auckland, Queenstown, Timaru, or anywhere in between — the advice, the access to lenders, and the level of service is exactly the same.
What I Want You to Take Away
If you have been declined by your bank, or feel like your options are limited because of where you live — please do not let that stop you from exploring what is possible.
Good financial advice should not be determined by your postcode. It should be determined by finding the right person who understands your situation and has the tools to help you — regardless of where either of you are sitting.
This client is settling on her first home this month. From a bank decline to keys in hand, in just a couple of months. Distance had nothing to do with it.
If you are thinking about buying, refinancing, or just want to understand your options — flick me a message or give me a call. It does not matter where in New Zealand you are.
Or if you know anyone who is thinking about it, feel free to pass on my number.
